One morning as I was feeding Sophie in bed, as I have only being doing breakfast sporadically, Lauren comes in and climbs into bed with us and says, “When I grow big I want to be a mommy just like you.” Ah…way to melt my heart. Then she adds, “because then I won’t have to cook anymore.”
One night as we were reading “Goodnight Moon” and we got to the “quiet old lady whispering hush.” The kids were being loud carrying on and not listening, but stopped to say, “Hush” So I asked Lauren what the word hush meant. She looked at me and said, “Hush means I need to go find a husband.” Right…
A few weeks ago we were watching the news and a teaser about Pat Summitt came on. For those who are not in the know, she is/was a college woman’s basketball coach for Tennessee. She has early onset dementia. So the teaser came on and Lauren points and says, “I’m going to play basketball for her when I get big.” How or why she knew who she was I have no idea. We don’t watch basketball. That whole week she was insisting on playing basketball, so I would set up baskets for her to throw balls into.
Today she puts on one of her dressup scarves and says, “I’m going to be on Dancing with the Stars” and starts singing the song and dancing. I tell her, “I will come and watch you dance when you are on.” She says, “Wait mom, I am going to be a dancer with the Wiggles first, THEN I will be good enough to be on Dancing with the Stars.”
Ok…got it. Basketball player and professional dancer. Anything else?
Lauren has been full of great quotes. Yesterday while talking to Nanna and Poppa she says to Nathan, “When you get bigger you’ll be poppa again, and I’ll be a kid.” This was about the point that Nathan was looking at his photo next to Poppa’s photo in the chat window and realized he really really looks like his dad, especially when he wears his glasses.
